59-year-old Samia Afara says her 27-year-old son, Ahmed Sayad, was speaking to her disrespectfully Saturday while she was sweeping the kitchen floor at their home. She then began to assault him with the broom, striking all parts of his body until she eventually beat him across the head with it, breaking the broomstick in half. The victim had large welts all over his body, some of which were bleeding. His father was a witness to the assault.
