Zion Newsom charged after attempting to rob Shell Gas Station at gunpoint
19-year-old Zion Newsom was taken into custody for attempted robbery on May 1st. On March 6th, officers were dispatched to the Shell Gas Station on Charlotte Pike for a panic alarm, where they spoke with Mohammad Hamdulla. Hamdulla advised officers that a lone black male, later identified as Newsom, wearing a mask, tried to rob the store at gunpoint. Newsom was unsuccessful and fled the scene in a white Chrysler. During the investigation, officers obtained phone records, placing him in the area at the time of the incident. Officers also identified Newsom via a previous encounter with police where he was the driver and sole occupant of the same white Chrysler. Newsom was later detained for the incident.
